:: boredom strikes :: So, i've spent the afternoon thinking how to go about my novel. I'm really quite excited about writing it. I don't really have a plot yet...*grin* but i DO have characters.. That's a start, isn't it? Neil Gaiman helped out a bit. Hahahah, amazingly. :P I thank him for his advice. Not that he'd actually feel my gratitude but, i have something to keep in mind while i'm writing. Did you know books have genders? :) I wondered what I'd learned, and found myself remembering something Gene Wolfe had told me, six months earlier. "You never learn how to write a novel," he said. "You just learn how to write the novel that you're writing."...more So, i've decided that i'd have a female protagonist. Duh. Although it'll be challenging to write from a male point of view, i'm cutting myself some slack. Hahaha. Anyways, my "she" has a name already! Wheeee!! :) It's Jordan. I've always liked that name...it's unisex. And it symbolises someone who's tough on the outside, who knows her own mind...and yet, she's vulnerable on the inside. Cliched, yeah...but it's MY character. *huffily* I'm not quite sure what genre it's gonna be in..i'm assuming literary fiction and somewhat chick-lit-ish at certain points. Fantasy even. It wouldn't be Ellie's book if it wasn't. *bursts out laughing* As much as i love Stephen King, writing horror and mystery simply isn't my cup of tea. I think i'd get nightmares. *widens eyes* Reading and actually writing something are two totally different things. I've got a philosophy that u can only write what you KNOW. Or at least, what you dream about. :) I'm going to have a novel that'll blow your minds. Or at least my own (and i mean that quite, literally!) since i have only 30 days to write 50,000 words!! That's about 1666 words per day. Almost 9 pages a day. Whoop-dee-doo! 1st of November. BRING IT ON! Jordan says she hopes to see you guys on paper soon! ;) *munches chocolate absent-mindedly* Posted by born2smile at 03:57 pm
